Come July 3, Trevor Sanborn will have his sights set on fast times and top spots at Oxford Plains Speedway. That’s the day of the track’s inaugural Celebration of America 300, and like every other competitor in that day’s field, Sanborn would love to be the first winner of the race.

Who will make it into the race just under a month from now is a mystery — except for Sanborn.

The Parsonsfield racer won a 100-lap Super Late Model qualifier Saturday at Oxford Plains, punching his ticket into the field for Celebration of America 300. He’ll still go through the qualifying process July 2-3, hoping to put himself on the pole for the race, but he can rest easy between now and then knowing he has a spot in the field.

He had plenty of competition Saturday, with 40 cars taking the green flag. Travis Stearns was the runner-up and Dave Farrington Jr. rounded out the podium.

While neither of those two captured the checkered flag or the $2,000 winner’s check, their finishing spots could prove nearly as valuable. Every finishing spot in Saturday’s 100-lap race meant being next in line should the drivers ahead all qualify into the Celebration of America 300 on race day. The stipulation for Saturday’s qualifier was that the “Highest finishing car that doesn’t qualify for the COA 300 will get the provisional” that Sanborn earned first dibs for, according to the Oxford Plains website.

In other action at the track Saturday, Jordan Russell won the Limiteds feature for his fifth victory in the past four weeks between that division and Street Stocks (which weren’t in action Saturday).

Kyle Richardson (Mab Bombers), Conrad Childs (Rebels), John Childs (Cruisers), Dustin Staples (Thunder Stocks) and Jaxson Moreside (Rookies) also visited victory lane.

WISCASSET WINNERS

There were some familiar names clutching checkered flags Saturday at Wiscasset Speedway.

Frank Moulton won the Late Models feature, Dan McKeage Jr. topped the field in Strictly Streets, and Adam Chadbourne added to his trophy case in Modifieds. Kyle Enman was the other Group 2 winner with a victory in Roadrunners. The Outlaw Minis joined the action, and Jeff Farrington came out on top.

PASS-ING THE TIME

Mother Nature continued to wreak havoc on the Pro All Stars Series schedule. The series was set to run two 150-lap SLM features at Oxford Plains on Sunday, along with races for the PASS Mods and the Oxford Plains Street Stocks, but the event was rained out.

One of the 150-lappers was previously scheduled for April 28 but was postponed to Sunday. All of Sunday’s action has now been rescheduled for this coming Sunday, June 16.

It was the second day of the weekend for PASS action spoiled by weather. The New England Supermodified Series, which is part of PASS, had its race at Thunder Road scheduled for Friday postponed. It has been rescheduled for Friday, Sept. 6.

BIG ACT

The American-Canadian Tour visited Seekonk Speedway in Massachusetts on Saturday for the Spring Green 124, and 34 cars battled for first place.

According to the tour, it’s the largest field at Seekonk for an ACT-sponsored race since 1985.

Series rookie Kasey Beattie picked up the win, with Erick Sands second and Gabe Brown in third.
