POLAND — The budget process is in a reboot mode for Regional School Unit 16 after voters in Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland rejected the $29.3 million budget Tuesday, 736-913.
Minot voted in favor, 215-158; Mechanic Falls voted against, 135-197; and Poland voted against, 386-55.
At Wednesday night’s school board meeting, Superintendent Todd Sanders said the district’s A Team, comprised of administrators and school principals, will “hold challenging conversations” on “what, where, and how” the budget will be heading.
Sanders said the Budget Committee will meet Thursday, June 20. The committee made up of school and town leaders will go through the budget to make any changes and their proposal will be presented to directors Wednesday, June 26, for approval.
On July 10, a districtwide budget meeting will take place where budget articles will be voted on by residents.
A date has not been set for a budget validation vote.
The warrant article for a five-year $110,180 interest-free bond to pay for new accessibility ramps and bathroom modifications to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act at Minot School passed 1008 to 644.
