50 Years Ago: 1974

Geoffrey Law, instructor of history at Bates College, and one of its drama group’s finest performers, was welcomed today as the first male member of the Lewiston-Auburn League of Women Voters. Extending the welcome is League president, Mrs. Nancy Ruff.

Until this year, the League’s membership was open only to women citizens, 18 years and older. In May, the League of Women Voters of the U.S. at its San Francisco convention voted to admit men to its ranks.
