To Editors of the Lewiston Journal:
Having been a conservative driver for several years in a light car, we found it a new experience this week to take a little flyer with a real driver. Now that the trip is a memory we are glad we took it. It was something of a fresh thrill, with prospect of motor cops arresting attention at any moment.
But due consideration of the benefits of flying through the air with one hand clutching your hat, the other alternately keeping a slippery robe in place and grasping the rigging at every sudden swerve in the road, fails to convince us that speed is really worthwhile. For this is hard work. Moreover on a dusty road, at 40 miles an hour up — mostly up — one finds the scenic effects utterly clouded and is forced to resign one’s self to eating that “peck of dirt.”

Paul Newman, Kevin Costner and Robin Wright didn’t have to give up fine dining when they came to a small town in Maine to make their new movie, “Message in a Bottle,” because they brought along a top caterer to the stars.
Thanks to chef Tony Kerum, whose many catering film credits include “Forrest Gump,” “Waterworld,” “The Rock” and “On Golden Pond,” the cast and crew enjoy such epicurean delights as chateaubriand, steamed sea bass, roast duck with orange sauce and a full sushi bar.
The material used in Looking Back is produced exactly as it originally appeared although misspellings and errors may be corrected.
