Winifred Corinne (Boucher) Witt

FARMINGTON – Winifred Corinne (Boucher) Witt, 91, a resident of Farmington, died peacefully on June 22, 2024, at the Pierce House after a brief illness.

She was born in Chelsea Massachusetts on Jan. 22, 1933, daughter of Edward George Boucher and Winifred (Smith) Boucher. Corinne attended schools in Chelsea and after graduating from high school there, went on to nursing school in Boston. She was extremely proud to have received her nurse’s training at Mass General Hospital, where she became a registered nurse, serving in the Boston area. She married James M. Witt III on Oct. 23, 1954, in Chelsea, Mass. They moved to Farmington in 1959 where her husband worked at Howards Rexall Drug as a pharmacist and she as a nurse at Franklin Memorial hospital.

Corinne and Jim loved their life in Farmington. They made many close, lifelong friends with whom they regularly got together. They traveled extensively, mostly via cruise ship, experiencing unique cultures and making new acquaintances from around the world. Her proudest accomplishment was raising three boys in the community they treasured. Corinne eventually discontinued nursing to focus on her sons and support her husband in his pharmacy business, becoming the store’s bookkeeper. She was always on the go, cheering on her sons on the baseball and football fields, and at the finish of ski races. Later in life she did the same for her grandchildren. In 1994, Corinne and Jim retired to Boothbay Harbor, where they had been happily vacationing for decades. Corinne was active in the community, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, and at the local library. All of the Witt grandchildren spent countless joyful weekends in The Harbor, enjoying quality time with their grandparents. Corinne and Jim moved back to Farmington when Jim’s health was declining. This allowed their family to provide them both with extra care, love, and support. An avid reader, Corinne could often be found with her Kindle in hand. She also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles. With her keen sense of humor and sharp memory, Corinne was a great conversationalist. Those who knew her marveled at her ability to pull up details from even the distant past.

She will be missed dearly and remembered warmly by all her family and friends.

Corinne was predeceased by her husband Jim, her parents, her daughter-in-law Diana, and her grandson Alex.

She is survived by her sons; Jim and his wife Michele, of Cumberland, Edward, of Madison, N.H., and Robert and his wife Nicole, of Wilton; and grandchildren Amy Witt and her partner Anthony, Elizabeth Lowe, Jeffrey Witt, Jamie Burns and her husband Ben, Edward Witt and his wife Megan, Sarah Hilton and her husband Luke, and Hannah Parker and her husband Noah. Corinne was also great-grandmother to nine beloved great-grandchildren including Myla and Priscilla (Amy), Robbie (Jeffrey), Alaric and Katherine (Elizabeth), Wilder, Cal, and Max (Jamie), and Elsie (Sarah).

Our family would like to thank the Pierce House and Androscoggin Hospice staff for the care and attention they took in looking after our mother.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, July 1, at Fairview Cemetery in Farmington.
