LEWISTON — The Maine Department of Transportation plan to perform bridge work July 10-12 on Lincoln Street, according to a news release.

The Gully Brook Bridge on Lincoln Street will close Wednesday, July 10, through Friday, July 12, for repairs. The bridge sits over the channel connecting Lewiston’s canal to the Androscoggin River.

The bridge initially closed June 25 when a Lewiston public works crew noticed buckling on the bridge surface, the release said. MDOT responded and determined part of the concrete surface separated from the bridge deck due to expansion from trapped moisture. The bridge was patched temporarily to reopen traffic.

MDOT contracted Shaw Brothers Construction of Gorham to replace the bridge’s wearing surface. Work will include applying a membrane between layers to prevent moisture and temperature fluctuation problems.

The project will cost around $66,000, according to the release.
