Sylas Ripley does even have a driver’s license yet, but the 14-year-old Warren resident was clutching the checkered flag at Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday.
Ripley won the 50-lap feature for his first career Super Late Model victory, and at age 14 matched Tommy Stilphen’s feat in Pro Late Models in 2013 as the youngest driver to win in Oxford Plains’ top division.
Ripley had to hold off former track champion Tim Brackett for his breakthrough victory. Ripley told Racing America after the race that he was thankful for Brackett racing him clean at the end of the feature. Kyle Salemi rounded out the podium.
It’s been an eventful summer already for Ripley, who joined the Team Hornaday Development program earlier this month. Founded by NASCAR Hall of famer Ron Hornaday Jr., the program seeks to “guide the next generation of drivers to become the best versions of themselves while helping them inch closer to their goals of racing on Sunday,” according to a news release announcing the addition of Ripley to the program.
In addition to select SLM starts at Oxford Plains, Ripley has also competed in Wiscasset Speedway’s Pro Stock and Late Model Sportsman divisions this season.
Other winners from Saturday’s Oxford Championship action were: Jerry Harrison (Limiteds), Jordan Russell (Street Stocks), Kyle Richardson (Mad Bombers), Conrad Childs (Rebels), Giggy Smalls (Cruisers), Dustin Staples (Thunder Stocks) and Liz Newton (Rookies).
MOLTZ POWERS TO PASS WIN
The Pro All Stars Series visited White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, New Hampshire, on Sunday, and New Sharon’s Dillon Moltz was the king of the mountain.
Moltz took the lead from the start and dominated the 150-lap Super Late Model feature. Series points leader DJ Shaw was second, with defending series champion Max Cookson rounding out the top three.
Jacoby Maines won the PASS Mods feature for his first career victory in the division.
Dan Bowes captured the checkered flag in the New England Supermodified Series feature.
The American-Canadian Tour was also in action at White Mountain on Sunday, and Tanner Woodard punched his ticket into the upcoming Midsummer Classic 250 at the track by winning the 75-lap Prelude to the Midsummer Classic qualifier race. In addition to the guaranteed spot into the Aug. 3 event, Woodard also claimed a $2,000 winner’s check.
WISCASSET WINNERS
Saturday was busy at Wiscasset Speedway, with a visiting series and a makeup feature resulting in a doubleheader for one weekly division.
The Modified Racing Series held a 75-lap feature, and Brett Meservey earned his first career win in the series.
Due to rainouts earlier in the season, Wiscasset’s Group 1 action included two features for the Super Streets division. Wiscasset native Noah Haggett won the first 30-lap race, with Landon Tapley crossing the line first in the second.
Other winners included Nick Hinkley (Pro Stocks), John Ricci (4-Cylinder Pro) and Kyle Willette (Thunder 4 Mini).
