ANSON — A 58-year-old Industry woman died Monday in a crash in Anson, the cause of which remains under investigation, police said.
Valerie Hoyt was found dead at the scene of crash, which happened in the vicinity of 99 Starks Road, according to Chief Deputy Mike Mitchell of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office. The crash was reported via 911 call around 5:50 p.m. Monday.
Hoyt was the only occupant of the vehicle, a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Mitchell said Tuesday. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
A preliminary investigation by Deputy Ashley Smith, who responded to the crash along with deputies Jacob Dever and Stephen Armiger, found that Hoyt’s vehicle was traveling south on Starks Road and veered off the road, Mitchell said.
Hoyt was not wearing a seatbelt, Mitchell said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors, Mitchell said. Information about a potential medical cause would not be available for several months, after the completion of an autopsy, he said.
The Madison and Anson fire departments and Anson-Madison-Starks Ambulance Service also responded to the crash, Mitchell said.
Because there is no possibility of criminal charges, the Sheriff’s Office is not reconstructing the crash, Mitchell said.
