JAY — The Jay Select Board voted Monday to appoint Cpl. Joseph Sage of Jay as the new police chief starting Aug. 4.

He will take over for Jay Police Chief Richard Caton IV who is the new police chief of Rangeley Police Department beginning on Aug. 3.

Sage will be paid a $77,000 salary.

Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere said she offered the position to Sage and he accepted.

Jay officer Anthony York of Livermore will be the new Regional School Unit 73 school resource officer when school starts in August and will continue as a Jay Police Department officer.

Sage has been in law enforcement for over 20 years. He is currently the school resource officer for RSU 73.

He started at the Livermore Falls Police Department in 2003. He went on to become a patrolman at the Rumford Police Department and then returned to Livermore Falls where he worked his way up to lieutenant. He then went to Jay Police Department to become a corporal and school resource officer.

York is the new school resource officer. He has been in law enforcement for seven years, two of those years with Jay and prior to that as deputy with the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Caton said Monday.

Jay selectpersons thanked both men for their service.

“All three of you, good luck,” board Chairman Terry Bergeron said.
