Gary Wight hopes to fill the back of the veterans statue at Newry Town Office with the names of all Newry vets.

NEWRY — Newry Select Board Chair Gary Wight and a committee he is forming will research Newry’s war veterans.

The names of the vets they find in Augusta’s archives and elsewhere will be etched on the back of the statue in front of Newry Town Office on Bear River Road.

They will get vets’ information from as far back as they can find, said Wright.

Of the statue they erected about five years ago, Wright said, “Now we want to finish it.”
