HARRISON — Deertrees Theatre will present “The Producers” in July and August. Musical comedy at its finest, “The Producers is adapted from Mel Brooks’ 1967 film of the same name. The original Broadway production starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick opened at the St. James Theatre in 2001 and ran for 2,502 performances, winning a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards.

Failing Broadway producer Max Bialystock and his accountant Leopold Bloom scam a group of elderly women out of their nest eggs by convincing them to invest in a horrendously offensive Third Reich-themed musical secretly intended to bomb the moment it opens. When high-brow Broadway audiences mistakenly assume that the show is a satire, Bialystock finds himself with the critical acclaim that has long eluded him – and the biggest hit of his career.

The cast includes Liam Neault as Max Bialystock, Daniel Rennie as Leopold Bloom, Collin Young as Franz Liebkind, Brandon Chaloux as Roger De Bris, Abram Dwyer as Carmen Ghia, and Karianna Merrill as Ulla. Various ensemble roles will be played by Janelle Raven, Bob Sawyer, Hillary Perry, Koley True, Brandon Reilly, Travis Burt, Cody Watson, Germaine Robinson, Maren Pinkham, Christine Vozella, Brent Lake, Nicole Emery, Natalie Veilleux, Kit Richards, Amanda Robinson, Carly Dillingham, and Allison Taber. Heinous hijinks artfully directed by Zack Balkcom with music directed by Mary Bastoni and choreography by Kristen MacBride. Sarah Chaloux will stage manage. Technical direction by Aaron Skolfield and costumes designed and created by Jenn Rennie.

Show dates for “The Producers” are July 26 and 27, August 2 and 3 at 7:30 p.m., and July 28 and August 4 at 7 p.m. All performances will take place at Deertrees Theatre, 156 Deertrees Road in Harrison. Tickets are $26 each and may be purchased online at https://deertrees-theatre.org.
