WEST PARIS — The West Paris Fire Department was able to purchase a new utility terrain vehicle, or UTV, and a trailer using a $50,000 grant from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation.

Firefighters have received training from the state related to the UTV, Town Manager Joy Downing said during the select board meeting July 25.

A Facebook post from the department thanks the foundation for its “support in keeping local communities safe with grant opportunities.”

The UTV was purchased from Maine-ly Action Sports in Oxford. It will help with wildfires, backwoods rescues, natural disasters, and more, the post says.

The West Paris Select Board will next meet at the town office at 5 p.m. Aug. 8.
