Rose-Marie Marcotte

AUBURN – Rose-Marie Marcotte, 92, of Auburn, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Clover Manor.

She was born in New Auburn on May 8, 1932, the daughter of Joseph and Alice (Bergeron) Legendre. Her childhood was spent living in Auburn and Dover, N.H. – the latter as a result of her family moving to Dover, N.H., when her father worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during World War II. As a result, she was educated in Auburn, and Dover, N.H. schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1950. After graduation she was employed at the Lewiston SunĀ Journal Advertising Department for 15 years, then assumed the challenging and rewarding role of a stay at home mom to guide and raise her two children, David and Karen.

She married Laurence Marcotte on October 13, 1956, who she met when he helped her up after falling while skiing at Pleasant Mountain. She enjoyed skiing with her family and friends and was an avid tennis player. She enjoyed candlepin bowling and played in many leagues when her husband owned and operated Auburn Lanes during 1970’s and early 1980’s. She also enjoyed hosting gatherings with her husband Larry at their pool and home on Sheridan Avenue for 32 years.

After raising her family, she returned to work in 1986 and worked for Eastern Fire Protection for 17 years – where many say she ran the entire Sprinkler Service Division until her retirement in 2003. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and later with her friends. She especially enjoyed her many trips to Las Vegas and her River Cruises in Europe. She loved her flower garden, playing bridge with her girlfriends, playing cribbage with her father in-law Gerry and later with her nephews and son. She was slightly fanatical about watching tennis and followed all of the major tournaments. She especially enjoyed watching the US Open and Wimbledon with her nephew Ray. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Auburn for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Laurence Roy Marcotte, on July 1, 2002, her sister and best friend, Louise Tardif, on August 15, 2014, her brother Robert Legendre, on December 15, 2018, her daughter, Karen Louise (Marcotte) Cook, on May 4, 2019, and her former daughter in law, Heidi Lynne Marcotte, on August 12, 2020.

She is survived by her son, David Laurence Marcotte and his fiance Jessica Blanchard of Auburn, her son in-law Jon Cook of Auburn, her grandchildren, Anna-Rose Lynne Marcotte and her husband Dakota Hogan, Jason Cook and his wife Trina Cook, and Breanna (Cook) Robbins and her husband Devin Robbins, and her nine great grandchildren, Oliver Grae Marcotte, Curtis Laurence Marcotte, Kaiden Turgeon, Jaxon Cook, Eli Cook, Noah Cook, Leo Cook, Caroline Robbins, and Connor Robbins as well as her many nieces, nephews, and many other relatives on both sides of the Marcotte and Legendre families.

A special thank you to the Tardif family, who have always been there for their Ma Tante, as well as Dr. Pamela Ross, Androscoggin Home Health, and Clover Manor for their attentive care.

Visiting hours will be held at the Fortin Group Funeral Home, 217 Turner St., Auburn, Friday, August 9, 2024, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., followed by a memorial service starting at noon.
