A white cross has been erected near the site of a crash in which Mark J. RICHMOND — The driver who was killed Aug. 3 in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 201, which is also known as Brunswick Road, has been identified as Mark J. Judd, 20, of Richmond.

Investigators determined Judd was northbound at about 6 a.m. in his 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck when he veered to the right, overcorrected and crossed the centerline into the path of a 2003 Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by William Miller IV, 58, also of Richmond.

Miller attempted to avoid the collision, but was unable to do so, according to Sagadahoc County Sheriff Joel Merry.

Miller’s vehicle overturned and he sustained minor injuries, officials said.

Judd’s vehicle careened into the ditch of the southbound lane, where it burst into flames, Merry wrote in an announcement Monday to the news media.

Judd’s body was taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where officials confirmed his identity.

Judd was the registered owner of the pickup truck.

A celebration of Judd’s life is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday on Lancaster Road, at the site of his family’s business, the food truck All American Subs & Lobster, where Judd worked and spent much of his time, according to an online announcement posted by family members.

A GoFundMe page, which was created to help his family with funeral and other expenses, describes Judd as a beloved member of the community who touched the lives of everyone who knew him, and who had a kind spirit, a warm smile and unwavering positivity. The GoFundMe page said Judd’s presence was a source of joy and comfort, and he was always ready with a smile and a kind word.
