Tri-County survived and has advanced in the consolation bracket of the Babe Ruth 14U World Series.

The Oxford-based baseball team scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a 2-1 victoy over Keene, New Hampshire, on Wednesday in Eagle Pass, Texas.

Tri-County went into its final at-bat trailing 1-0, but with one out, Keene pitcher Cayden Martel walked Ethan Godomsky, Carter Davis and Nolan Cavers to load the bases.

Kayden McDaniels replaced Martel on the mound, but Tri-County’s Shawn West drew another walked to score Godomsky. Then Tucker Hilden walked to bring home Davis for the game-winning run.

Keene scored its run in the top of the first when Asher Merrill came home on a groundout.

Davis, Tri-County’s starter, escaped a bases-loaded jam in the top of the fourth to maintain the 1-0 score.

Davis pitched six innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out five and walking four batters. Godomsky earned the win with one inning of relief.

Merrill, Keene’s starter, carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning that was broken up on a two-out single by Tri-County’s Keegan Day. In the bottom of the fifth, Godomsky and Davis singled, but Tri-County stranded them at second and third base.

Merrill went five innings, giving up three hits, striking out five and walking three.

Tri-County again had runners on second and third in the bottom of the sixth, but Martel, who started the inning, got out of the threat.

Tri-County, which defeated Keene 20-4 on Monday, faces the winner of Braintree, Massachusetts, and Aruba on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in Eagle Pass. The winner of Thursday’s game will play for the title of Iron Man Champion on Friday.
