PARIS — A Massachusetts man was charged Thursday with more than a dozen felonies stemming from a crash in Rumford in March that killed a child.
An Oxford County grand jury indicted Matthew R. Kellogg, 42, of Hopedale, Massachusetts, on a charge of manslaughter and four counts of aggravated assault.
If convicted, Kellogg faces up to 30 years in prison on each charge.
He also was charged with three counts of aggravated criminal operating under the influence, each crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
For each of three charges of driving to endanger and three counts of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, he faces up to five years in prison.
Kellogg also was charged with two misdemeanor crimes of endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said an 8-year-old boy died from his injuries and three people were injured, but not fatally, on the afternoon of March 9 when two cars collided on Route 2 in Rumford around 3 p.m.
The crash was reported as a two-vehicle, high-speed collision.
A preliminary investigation indicated Kellogg was traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 2 in his 2016 Subaru Impreza when he collided with a westbound 2005 Volvo S80 sedan operated by F. Michael Piveronas of Rumford.
Kellogg was driving with his two sons, ages 8 and 5, and Piveronas had no passengers, according to Rumford Police Department’s Facebook page.
