Judith Foster

OXFORD – Judith Foster, 81, died unexpectedly on Aug. 18, 2024, after a tragic fall the previous day. Mrs. Foster had been transported by air to Maine Medical Center, in Portland where she later passed in the company of family.

Described as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, retired sales executive, master seamstress, or community pillar, Judith “Judi” was many things to many people. In fact, she was always a local girl that believed in the capabilities of those around her more than they themselves, and she loved showing people just how capable they were.

Judi was born in Waterville on April 15, 1943. The oldest of six children, she was the only daughter of the late Herbert Allan MacKenzie and Helen (Perkins) MacKenzie of Winslow. Judi graduated from Oxford High School in 1961, married Norman Foster 31 days later, and the two were inseparable for the next 55 years until his passing. Judi and Norman welcomed their only child, Tanya, in 1968, and from that day forward Judi was always a mother (and eventually, grandmother) first.

Spending many years as a sales manager, Judi loved her notable national and international successes, but never due to personal gain. Judi knew that she worked to provide jobs in a slowing wood products industry for her neighbors and friends, and she loved them more than any success.

Of her other many interests, since childhood, Judi sewed. She created, repaired, and resized clothing for everyone she knew, and always wanted to share her expertise and experience. Following retirement, Judi put her sewing mastery to work teaching sewing classes; in addition to outfitting countless weddings and sewing costumes for Oxford Hills Music and Performing Arts Assn. (OHMPAA).

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Norman Foster, who passed away in 2017.

Judi is survived by her daughter, Tanya Lowell, and her husband John of Lyman; one grandchild, Thomas Lowell; and many nieces and nephews that she loved as her own.

A memorial tribute will be held for Judi at The American Legion Post 150, 41 Elm St., Mechanic Falls, on Sunday, Aug. 25 at 3 p.m. A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
