POLAND — A third budget proposal, which is nearly $1 million less than the original one, will be discussed and voted on by Regional School Unit 16 voters at a districtwide meeting on Thursday.
The meeting for Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland residents will begin at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at Poland Regional High School. Registered voters will have the opportunity to ask questions and voice concerns before voting on each spending article.
The budget totals $28.4 million, down from the initial $29.3 million defeated by voters in May.
A second proposal of $28.8 million was defeated July 30.
Board directors approved additional cuts totaling $388,095 at last week’s special meeting.
RSU 16 is also moving $500,000 from its fund balance account to decrease the property tax impact in the three towns.
According to RSU 16 administration officials, the estimated tax impact of the proposed budget on a property valued at $100,000 would be $100 in Mechanic Falls, $76 in Minot and $136 in Poland.
A single validation vote will take place Tuesday, Sept. 17, in all three towns on the amount approved at the district budget meeting Thursday.
