From the big screen to getting back behind the race car wheel, Patrick Dempsey has been busy this year but still found time for charitable efforts and Dempsey Center promotion.
He had two movies come out late last year, “Ferrari” and “Thanksgiving.”
Dempsey combined his acting talents with his passion for motor sports portraying Italian race car driver Piero Taruffi in “Ferrari,” which premiered Christmas Day last year. He worked alongside big name actors such as Adam Driver, Shailene Woodley and Penelope Cruz.
Dempsey took on another film genre entirely when he portrayed Sheriff Eric Newlon in the horror film “Thanksgiving” released Nov. 17, 2023. The film was 16 years in the making. The movie is based in Plymouth, Massachusetts and features a killer dressed as a pilgrim.
He will be seen next in the upcoming television show “Dexter: Original Sin,” a prequel to the original show “Dexter” about a violent vigilante serial killer. Dempsey portrays Capt. Aaron Spencer, alongside other popular actors such as Christian Slater and Christina Milian. The show is set to premier on Paramount+ on Dec. 13.
Dempsey has had a busy racing year, participating in the Porsche Endurance Challenge North America, a championship that includes four races, driving a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, according to Porsche Sport. He also participated in Porsche Spring Challenge races. Traveling to Europe, he also attended the Monaco Historic Grand Prix May 10-12.
Dempsey has been racing with Porsche since 2013, according to Wright Motorsports. He took time off from the sport in 2016, returning this year, according to a May 24 article by Florida-based Highlands News-Sun.
In between filming and racing, Dempsey has been seen attending charitable events and promoting the Dempsey Center.
Most recently he attended the Cantor Fitzgerald Charity Day, a gathering every year on Sept. 11 to remember 658 Cantor Fitzgerald employees and 61 Euro Brokers who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center, according to the Cantor Fitzgerald website. The event raises funds for charities around the world.
He participated in the celebrity golf tournament Drive Fore Kids in Late June at the Falmouth Country Club, helping to raise money for the MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital and the Dempsey Center.
He spent some time at the hospital before the tournament, stating in an Instagram post “spending time at the MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital was truly humbling. The strength of those young patients and the unwavering dedication of the doctors, nurses, staff and families left me speechless.”
A couple of months before that, Dempsey threw the first pitch at the April 26 Red Sox game, taking the opportunity to promote the Drive Fore Kids golf tournament.
In January, he attended the 24th annual Sugarloaf Charity Summit in Carrabassett Valley, which raised money for the Martha B. Webber Breast Cancer Center, Maine Cancer Foundation and the Dempsey Center.
