RANGELEY — WRGY 90.5 FM Station Manager Iris Ramirez was recently awarded a $2,000 scholarship by the Maine Association of Broadcasters for the 2024-25 academic year.

Recipients of this award are chosen by the Maine Association of Broadcasters board of directors through an application process that takes into consideration academic achievement, community service and dedication to the broadcasting field, according to a news release.

Ramirez began her career with WRGY, a nonprofit, community/educational radio station serving the Rangeley Lakes region, in 2021 as assistant manager while working toward her bachelor’s degree in music and arts management at the University of Oklahoma at Tulsa. In 2023, Ramirez moved to Rangeley full time to begin her new position as station manager. She attends the university online and expects to complete her master’s degree in arts management in 2024.

Ramirez has helped increase WRGY’s community engagement, diversify and update scheduled programming, and has helped plan the return of WRGY live events such as the June production of “RadioFest,” according to the release.

She will be recognized at the Maine Association of Broadcasters Annual Meeting and Award Gala on Oct. 26 at Sable Oaks Sheraton in South Portland.
