BETHEL — A Newry man was seriously injured Wednesday night after losing control of his truck on West Bethel Road and rolling the vehicle about 100 feet off the road and into the woods.
Police said Douglass Jones, 56, was heading east on West Bethel Road shortly before 10 p.m. when his GMC pickup truck crossed the center line and struck a guardrail along the westbound breakdown lane before the vehicle sailed into the woods.
Douglass was trapped inside the vehicle when police and emergency crews arrived, investigators said. Bethel fire crews ripped a door off the vehicle to remove the driver, who sustained injuries described as “life threatening.”
Bethel Rescue took Jones to Central Maine Medical Center where he remained on Thursday.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation by the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and it was unknown what caused Jones to lose control of his 2024 GMC. Anyone with information about the wreck is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
