LEWISTON — The Androscoggin Retired Educators’ Association is scheduled to meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Green Ladle at Lewiston High School, 156 East Ave.
This meeting will be its annual scholarship auction. Members are asked to bring an item to be auctioned. Items may be seasonal decorations, knick-knacks, white elephant items, and food items like pumpkin bread and other seasonal breads, fudge, cookies and brownies. Books and puzzles are always popular, according to a news release from Elizabeth Bell with the association.
AREA meets five times per year: September, October, November, March and April. Dues for the year are $10 for educators and $6 for non-educator spouses or partners. Members who are 85 or older no longer need to pay dues. One need not have taught in Androscoggin County or even in Maine. All educators are welcome: teachers, ed techs, administrators, secretaries, librarians, guidance counselors, anyone who has worked with children.
New members, with their registration (or reservation), should include address, email, phone number, birth date and the major educational school district or school and location.
The income from the auction enables the association to offer scholarships to those entering college in the field of education. Items to be auctioned should be brought by 10 a.m.
Lunch, to be served by the Green Ladle, costs $22. Members who find this cost more than they can afford can call Gina Fuller at 207-783-9091. Send reservations to her at 36 Elliott Ave, Lewiston, ME 04240.
