LEWISTON — Edward Little capped its second regular season in style with a 3-0 sweep against Lewiston, winning with scores of 25-21, 25-19, and 25-20.

The win is the Red Eddies’ 10th of the season after not winning a match in 2023. Edward Little will continue its season in the upcoming Class A playoffs.

“We are pumped. We didn’t have any wins last year, so this feels great,” freshman Elizabeth Galway said.

Edward Little (10-4) coach Kristi Gordon said she noticed the team coming together halfway through the season and realized the Eddies had a chance to make the postseason.

“I think about halfway through we kind of realized we were on our way,” Gordon said.

Lewiston (2-12) coach Jennifer Curlee said she is pleased with the development of the Blue Devils this season.

“You know what? The idea this whole season was progress over points, and we succeeded,” Curlee said. “We’re hitting spots that we’re asking for. We’re actually spot-serving. It’s stuff that they weren’t doing before, so I’m 100% happy with my team.”

In Thursday’s first set, the teams traded points for the first half of the set before Edward Little went on a run and took a 13-7 lead. But Lewiston (2-12) battled back to tie it at 15-15.

Galaway, Nellie Feeney and Sarah Ebersole recorded points to help the Red Eddies build a 24-16 advantage. Lewiston’s Holland Clybum extended the set with a few points for the Blue Devils before Edward Little eventually took the first set.

“(Clyblum) is a senior, so it was her last push,” Curlee said. “(Ava Marquis) is my little defensive specialist, so she’s all over the place.”

Galway’s serves and points from Ebersole helped the Red Eddies to a 10-3 advantage early in the second set.

“I think all of our serves were good, and we played really well as a team,” Galway said.

Edward Little errors helped Lewiston even the set 10-10. The teams traded points again until Ebersole’s serves gave the Red Eddies a 19-15 lead. Lewiston closed the gap to 19-17, then Ebersole recorded more points, as did Sophie Evrand, to put the Eddies up 23-17. They then closed the set off with two straight errors by Lewiston.

“We had a lot of good rallies, we just couldn’t finish them, and luckily we were able to get some good points,” Gordon said.

Gordon said Ebersole, a sophomore, and Galway have spent a lot of time working on serves throughout the season.

“We worked a lot on serving to spots and really covering and working well as far as helping each other with their defense and passes,” Gordon said. “So we’ve worked a lot the past couple of weeks on improving those areas.”

Galway recorded seven straight service points to start the third set. Lewiston, once against, chipped away at the deficit, making it 9-8.

Galway and Ebersole helped the Red Eddies build a 23-12 advantage. Clybum, Tori Cox and Gemma Bealieau, along Edward Little not getting the ball over the net, helped Lewiston stay in the match, but after a long rally when it was 24-20, Edward Little earned the match point.

“Yes, sir, that’s what we that’s all I asked for my girls: grit, and that they make every point count,” Curlee said.
