I was sorry to hear that Ed Plourde was stepping down as one of Lewiston’s county commissioners, but delighted to learn that Tom Shannon had decided to run as a write-in candidate for that vacancy.

Having once served as a commissioner myself, I know the importance of that role. County commissioners oversee many critical services, including rural patrol, the jail, and the registries of deeds and probate. In addition, they work with neighboring counties to provide support for the district attorney’s office.

Tom Shannon, who served on the Lewiston School Committee for more than 25 years, has clearly demonstrated his strong commitment to public service and his excellent leadership skills.

I hope voters join me in writing in Tom Shannon for Androscoggin County commissioner on the Lewiston ballot (and filling in the oval next to his name).
