The Class B North field hockey playoffs look like they’re going to be a lot of fun. That a team with as much talent as Lawrence (9-4-1) is the No. 7 seed shows how much loaded the region is. The Bulldogs have one of the top player in the state in Maddie Niles (32 goals, 12 assists), while No. 2 Cony (11-3) has one of its own in Abby Morrill.

Edward Little at Mt. Ararat boys’ soccer
6 p.m., Wednesday
The No. 5 Red Eddies and the No. 4 Eagles, both 8-5-1, meet in the Class A North quarterfinals for the second straight season. Edward Little won last year’s playoff game and beat Mt. Ararat 1-0 earlier this season. The Eagles were victorious in three of their final four games, while the Eddies finished 2-2.

Messalonskee at Gardiner football
7 p.m., Friday
A No. 4-vs.-5 matchup between two teams that enter the postseason with some momentum. The Tigers (4-4) ended the regular season with a win over C North stalwart Oceanside. The Eagles (3-5), meanwhile, lost to B North leader Falmouth, 31-14, but were within three points after three quarters and came away from the game with positive vibes. Messalonskee edged Gardiner 13-6 during the regular season matchup on Sept. 27.

Volleyball state championships
Saturday
Washington Academy is ranked No. 1 in the Varsity Maine poll and is the state’s only team to finish the regular season without a loss. But third-seeded Yarmouth has won three straight Class B state titles.

Cross country state championships
Saturday
The state’s top distant runners meet at Twin Brook for the final race of the season. Class C will have a new girls champion after being dominated by Ruth White the past four years.
