JAY — The Halloween Boo Bash held Saturday morning, Oct. 26, at French Falls Park off French Falls Lane had a number of activities designed to get families outdoors based on the popular October holiday.
An ATV hitched to seven single-occupant conveyances was seen making its way around the large field upon arrival at the park. Bright orange adorned some of them while white spider webs on a black background covered others. Children on the ride raised their hands and smiled during the journey.
“The driver hasn’t stopped since he started,” Debra Breton, a member of the Jay Recreation Committee said. “It has been full.”
Breton thought there might be some cookies left for decorating. This year the auxiliary from George Bunten American Legion Post 10 in Livermore Falls made 250 for the Boo Bash, she noted. “Last year we ran out,” she said.
The Jay Fire Department brought two of its trucks for children to explore. Firefighter Carl Beaudette took time out from helping other children to let his daughter sit in the driver’s seat.
Serenity Sjostrom, six, of Jay, climbed into the rear seat. She said she was having fun, liked the firetrucks the best of all activities.
Further down the park, tables were set up to decorate cookies, get tattoos or guess the pieces of candy in various jars. A maze made from plastic, webbed fencing tested youngsters’ ability to find their way back out again. A scavenger hunt was another fun activity for kids to explore the park while finding the various items.
At one station, a volunteer held several hula hoops. Some youth quickly caught the hang of keeping the hoops swirling around their bodies while others had to try several times before getting one to stay in motion.
While the event was supposed to close at noon, parents continued to wait as their children were having too much fun to leave. A sudden rain shower had most of them dashing towards their cars while volunteers quickly started picking up their things.
