On Oct. 6, 2023, we arrived in Tel Aviv, Israel, for a three-week vacation to visit our son, daughter-in-law and five grandchildren. On Oct. 7, the war began.
When we returned home two weeks later, I wrote a letter to U.S. Sen. Angus King encouraging him to support Israel. His first reply was positive. However, actions speak louder than words.
On July 24, when Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed Congress, Mr. King — along with U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree — didn’t attend. This common act of courtesy would have shown the people of Maine that he still supported Israel.
Our family will not be supporting Mr. King for reelection. We will be supporting Demi Kouzounas for U.S. Senate and Austin Theriault for U.S. House of Representatives.
Maine needs clear, strong voices now more than ever.
