LIVERMORE — Spruce Mountain Primary School welcomed around 380 family members on Oct. 24 to its annual Fall Family Festival. It was a vibrant event featuring autumn-themed activities, community support, and hands-on fun, according to Principal Darcy Shink.
Attendees enjoyed activities like pumpkin decorating, face painting, sensory bottle-making, and math estimation games. “I saw so many smiling faces from students who won the estimation jar activity and the two raffles we gave away,” Shink said, adding that the festival atmosphere brought joy to students and their families alike.
Local businesses and community members made significant contributions, with donations from Jay Hannaford, Deschenes Plumbing and Heating, Boothby’s Orchard, Berry Fruit Farm, Stevenson’s Strawberry Farm, and Jarden Plastic Solutions. Items from an Amazon wish list also supported the event. “It certainly takes a village to host events like this for our families, and we are so proud of our kids and families for making it a success,” Shink noted.
Organized by the school’s Family Involvement Committee, the event was part of a larger effort involving staff from various committees focusing on areas such as attendance, behavior, culture and climate, outdoor learning, and family engagement. Volunteer family members helped manage activity stations, contributing to the community-centered spirit. “We heard from many families about how much fun they had, and they are already looking forward to more events,” Shink said.
The school, which funds events like this through a student activity account, is looking forward to incorporating new elements and activities in future festivals to keep the community engaged and involved, Shink said.
