PARIS — Starting Nov. 19, customers of the Norway-Paris Solid Waste Station will be able to dispose of brush at the Oxford Transfer Station at no cost.
The Oxford Transfer Station is open Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to noon and is located at 69 Smith Road in Oxford.
The Norway-Paris Solid Waste Inc. Board of Directors approved a contract with Oxford Transfer Station during its meeting Oct. 22.
Currently, at Norway-Paris Solid Waste, the cost is $2 per bag or $10 for a truckload, according to Facility Manager Tonia Pike.
After the current brush pile is cleared out, the transfer station will have more space, Pike said.
“That would be the best and most affordable way,” she said.
There is $13,000 allocated in the current budget for hauling away brush and Pike thinks the number will come in under that.
Board member Steve Powers suggested encouraging residents to take their brush to Oxford to keep the extra space clear by possibly adjusting prices to more adequately cover the cost of hauling the brush away.
“I’m expecting that most people would go to Oxford,” board member Michael Bailey said.
Oxford Transfer station will not take leaves but Norway-Paris Solid Waste is still taking leaves until Dec. 1.
The Norway-Paris Solid Waste Board of Directors will hold a workshop to talk about the interlocal agreement between the two towns at 6 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Paris town office.
The board is also inviting the Paris and Norway select boards to attend its next meeting at 6 p.m. on Nov. 19.
