DEAR SUN SPOTS: There are big happenings Saturday, Nov. 23, in the Norway-Paris area. Grab a friend and a bag or two and head our way. Most events are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Start in Norway at 212 Main St. at the American Legion Craft and Vendor Fair then walk across the street to the Guy Rowe School Fair. Next, head down Paris Street to the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School on Main Street for the DECCA Fair.
From there, go on over to Market Square and turn right for the First Congregational Church Fair on East Main Street. Then return to Market Square and visit the Fair at Market Square Health Care.
After that, get back on Route 26 and head to the South Paris Fire Department at 137 Western Ave. for their auxiliary fair.
And if you’re feeling hungry because you didn’t fill up on all the good food at the fairs, stop at one of South Paris and Norway’s wonderful restaurants. You can also visit the shops on Main Street in Norway.
Top it all off by heading to the First Universalist Church at 479 Main St. in Norway to enjoy the Mollyockett Barber Shop Chorus at 7 p.m.
We hope you come and have an enjoyable day in our area of Oxford Hills and that you’ll be able to put a big dent in your Christmas shopping. Your visit this holiday season will help the nonprofits and the programs they sponsor. — Diane, no town
ANSWER: Wow! This sounds like a very fun day for shoppers who are looking for one-of-a-kind gifts while supporting nonprofits. And I have to agree that Main Street in Norway is very special — one of my favorite places in all of Maine, so be sure to check that out.
Thank you for providing Sun Spotters with this great list of holiday shopping ideas, and the concert at the end of the day sounds perfect.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: My mother and mother-in-law were both diabetics and have recently passed away, so I have boxes of new/sealed needles. I’ve contacted local pharmacies, but they cannot take them back. It’s a shame that these cannot be redistributed to other patients as they are quite expensive. Any advice would be appreciated. — No name, no town
ANSWER: Go to the Insulin for Life USA Inc. website at https://iflusa.org/donate-supplies/. They collect in-date, unopened, supplies from individuals or organizations and, following careful inspection, redistribute them through clinics and licensed health care providers. They actively support the diabetes community within the U.S. and internationally. Insulin for Life USA is fully licensed by the state of Florida to both receive and distribute medications for this purpose. All donations to the organization are tax-deductible in accordance with regulations.
On the website, you’ll find instructions on how to print out a label and package your supplies. Thank you for being willing to donate your no longer needed items to help others.
Readers, if you know of a local facility that accepts unused, sealed needles, please let us know.
