NORWAY — The Community Children’s Theater is busy preparing its performance of Sally K. Albrecht and Jay Althouse’s musical, “Snow Way Out,” on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Second Congregational Church, Norway. Since early September, a dedicated cast of 10 grade and middle school students have participated in the free weekly musical theatre workshop, sponsored by the Second Congregational Church. They have rehearsed songs, learned choreography, and memorized lines. They have discussed and amassed props and costumes. But most of all, they had fun getting ready for their production.
According to the Director, Shirli Allen, some community members, and family have asked if the show will be ready. Her smiling reply is, “At this age, it’s not all about being ready. It will be wonderful, silly and whimsical. You will smile. It may not go exactly according to the script, but it will be their show.” Most of the children are aged 7-13 years old, from four surrounding towns, and did not know one another before the Wednesday workshops. They have made new friends, practiced respect and compassion, and helped each other with each new theater skill. Some of the very shy participants have blossomed. Some of the bold have learned restraint.
The public is invited to a free performance of “Snow Way Out,” on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m., at the Second Congregational Church, U.C.C., 205 Main Street in Norway. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. In the show, Jack and Jackie Frost have just finished renovating Winter Wonderland, a fabulous North Country resort. Winter. The staff, the Frostbites, are busily getting everything ready for the grand reopening festivities. Guests start to arrive, but, sadly, there’s just no snow! Everyone is getting anxious. At last, the final special guest, Old Man Winter, arrives-and with him the much-anticipated precipitation!
The production is directed by Shirli Allen and assisted by Bette Ann Whitten and Kate Wood. Ed Baldridge accompanies the troop on piano.
A light reception will follow the production. Church members are asked to make finger food for the reception. Donation baskets will be available to those who wish to financially support the Children’s Community Theater program.
