
Clara Belle Hamlin
NORWAY – Clara B. Hamlin, 89, of Waterford, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Jan. 11, 2025.
Clara was born on April 24, 1935, in East Bethel, daughter of David and Myra Foster. She was the oldest of four siblings.
She attended Bethel primary schools and graduated from Gould Academy in 1953. She married Walter “Bud” Hamlin in April of 1955. They made their home in South Waterford where they raised their children. Together they started Hamlin Oil and Electric and sold the business in 1980. She later worked for LaVerdiere’s and after retirement worked part-time for the American Greeting Card Co. She was a 65-year member of the Bear Mountain Grange where she was a lecturer and a secretary. She was also a 50-year member of The Order of the Eastern Star (Norway/Buckfield).
She enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, cards, crafting, bird watching, and traveling. She was a faithful attendant of the Waterford Congregational Church. She was always happiest spending time with her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her daughter Wanda “Callina” McNair, her stepdaughters, Cynthia Hamlin and Pamela Ward, her sister June Stearns and her husband Richard.
She is survived by her siblings, John Foster and his wife Agnes of Florida, her sister Jo Bradeen of Auburn, her son David “Wally” Hamlin and his wife Patty of Waterford, and her stepdaughter Sheryl Hamlin of West Virginia, her grandchildren Benjamin Hamlin (Eva), Nikki Hodgkins (Matthew), Dawn Hagar (Douglas), Dori Meservier (Patrick), James Hagar, Justin Hagar (Kris), Buck and Nathan Ward, along with many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, at the Waterford Congregational Church, 15 Plummer Hill Road, Waterford.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Waterford Congregational Church.
