NORWAY — The Center for an Ecology-Based Economy is continuing to host monthly free Repair Cafés the first Friday of every month, with the next two set for 4-7:30 p.m. Feb. 7 and March 7, at the 447 Main St. center.

The Repair Café movement started in Amsterdam in the 2000s, with the goal of passing on repair skills and keeping items out of the waste stream, while drawing community members together, according to a news release from Renee Igo, the center’s communications and project coordinator.

The center began hosting Repair Cafés in 2023 after several volunteers expressed interest in bringing the movement to Norway. Community members show up each month to fix items, with hundreds of repairs completed in the past year and a half.

Events are hosted by volunteers who provide materials and guidance for sewing and ceramic repairs, simple jewelry fixes, leather shoe maintenance, knife sharpening, replacing lamp cords and other minor repairs.
