Does Sen. Susan Collins remember when she suggested Donald Trump had learned his lesson and she voted to acquit him? We all know how that turned out.
Does she remember when she voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court because he promised not to overturn Roe v Wade, but in fact he did? One would have hoped our senator would have learned a lesson.
Robert Kennedy Jr. has spent his professional life promoting conspiracy theories about vaccines causing autism, even when science has proven that to be fully untrue. He has every right to his own crazy opinions, but now Sen. Collins voted to confirm him because he promised her that he didn’t mean the things he has said for years.
I could go on with the same concerns for other cabinet nominees based on their promises not to be who they have already told us they were. Kash Patel’s own book says he wants to get retribution and names an enemy list. Pam Bondi promised she would not use her position for retribution, yet almost immediately broke her word.
When people write books and freely give their opinions on podcasts, only to have a “confirmation hearing conversion,” why can’t we count on Sen. Collins to have “learned a lesson” and deny their nominations?
I empathize she is on the hot seat with President Trump to confirm these people, but the people of Maine voted for her to be the independent voice she claims to be.
