Rangeley, ME— The 2024 Winter Kids Winter Games kicked off on January 8th and Rangeley Lakes Regional School is going for the Gold. Winter Kids mission is to help children develop healthy, lifelong habits through education and fun with outdoor winter activities. Each year the Winter Games has a theme and this year it is all about the Little Things.
The Little Things theme encourages students to think about how small gestures can have very big impacts on our lives, using imagination, problem solving skills and resilience.
Each of the four weeks consists of six activities, and each week has its own theme and incentive. Physical Activity, Nutrition, Family Engagement and Winter Carnival. Each activity encourages students to be active, outdoors and help others. Students are holding doors for others, smiling, performing acts of kindness without asking, saying hello to people as they pass and so much more. They are also journaling their experiences as they explore the outdoors with magnifying glasses, noting how people act when they perform an act of kindness, writing Haikus, documenting and observing details of tiny things and looking at objects in various perspectives.
Winter Kids is an amazing organization and we are so excited to be one of the 22 schools participating in the competitive track for prize money. This program helps our school continue to provide and promote health and wellness, as well as an increased love for the outdoors.
Stay tuned on our progress and check out some awesome photos and videos on our school website as well as the Winter Kids Winter Games website. Leaderboards are updated weekly and WMTW Channel 8 (abc) will also keep you updated by sharing the Moment of the Week (bonus point) on Tuesday evenings between 4 and 4:30pm as well as 6 and 6:30pm.
