After guiding the University of Maine at Farmington softball team to its best season in more than a decade, head coach Alyssa Williamson was named the North Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year by her fellow NAC softball coaches.

The third-year head coach led the Beavers to a 19-11 record, which is the program’s most wins since 2008. UMaine-Farmington’s losers bracket win in the NAC tournament was its first since 2011.

Williamson’s award was announced Thursday, along with the rest of the NAC’s postseason honors.

A trio of Beavers were named to the All-NAC East first team: Melissa Mayo, Maddie Pike and Jessica Dow. Abby Wrin, Grace Pratt and Mack Bergen earned second-team East honors, along with Husson’s Lydia Rice, who is a Winthrop High School graduate. Carleigh Schievink was UMF’s representative on the NAC Sportsmanship Team.

BOBCATS DUO DECLARED ALL-NESCAC: Bates College sophomores Kennedy Jones and Emma Yen were named second-team All-Conference by the New England Small College Athletic Conference on Wednesday.

Jones sported a team-high .390 batting average that was sixth in the conference, while Yen’s 1.006 OPS (on-base-plus-slugging) led the Bobcats and her .449 on-base percentage ranked fifth in the NESCAC.

BASEBALL

BATES’ BRENNAN COLLECTS CONFERENCE ACCOLADE: Bates senior captain Jack Brennan received All-NESCAC second team recognition Thursday.

Brennan’s .465 OBP ranked eighth in the conference, and he led the Bobcats with nine doubles and 26 runs scored.

WALLINGFORD TABBED TOP PITCHER: Husson University’s Matt Wallingford was selected the NAC Pitcher of the Year on Wednesday.

The Leavitt grad led the conference with a 0.67 earned-run average in NAC play. He was second in the league with 32 strikeouts. Wallingford was 4-1 against conference opponents.

He also received a first-team All-NAC East accolade.

UMaine-Farmington’s Sam Parsell was selected to the All-NAC East second team, and teammate Callister Montembeau earned Sportsmanship Team honors.

FOUR AREA GRADS AMONG HUSKIES HONORED: The University of Southern Maine baseball team made a large showing on the Little East Conference postseason honors list.

Among the recognition was four area graduates being named All-Conference. Lisbon’s Hunter Brissette and Edward Little’s Clay Robbins were selected to the second team, while Lewiston’s Jack LeBlond and Lisbon’s Lucas Francis received third-team honors.

Outgoing Huskies coach Ed Flaherty was named LEC Coach of the Year and sophomore Kyle Douin, a Cony grad, was tabbed Player of the Year.
