PARIS — The Select Board unanimously voted Monday to reinstitute the town Budget Committee for the first time since its dissolution in 2018.
Town Manager Natalie Andrews said she would post for the positions right away to find five regular members and three alternates before the next budget season.
She explained that as town manager, she presents a budget to the Select Board and Budget Committee and then each board makes recommendations for residents to consider at annual town meeting.
In other business, the Select Board signed the warrant for the Maine School Administrative District 17 revised budget of $50.5 million, since they “don’t have a choice,” board member Chris Summers commented. Voters will go to the polls Aug. 6 for a referendum vote on the new budget after it was voted down earlier this year.
Andrews also informed the board that Planning Board member Chris Gordon resigned, effective immediately, and that the Select Board would have to appoint his replacement.
Interviews have started for the open police chief position, Andrews said.
Hartley “Skip” Mowatt has been hired by the town as emergency management director for an annual stipend of $2,000. Since these duties were originally a part of Andrews’ contract as town manager, the $2,000 amount has been deducted from her salary and the select board will have to modify her contract to reflect that, she said.
The Select Board will next meet at the Town Office at 6 p.m.
