FARMINGTON — Franklin County commissioners will begin reviewing a draft budget for 2017-18 on Tuesday, April 18, at the commissioners’ office in the Franklin County Courthouse.

The review will begin at noon with program grants.

Budget talks will continue Wednesday, April 19, with department budgets. The Register of Deeds budget presentation is scheduled for 9 a.m.

County Clerk Julie Magoon asked commissioners Tuesday if they wanted to include a 2 percent raise for themselves.

Commissioners agreed to keep their salaries at $12,000, the same as this year. 

A 2 percent increase is proposed for nonunion employees, Magoon said. There would be no step increases for those employees.

Last year, the Budget Advisory Committee eliminated money for a 2 percent increase for nonunion workers. However, after the current budget was approved, commissioners gave nonunion workers a 2 percent raise.

Magoon said she also increased the stipend for the web master from $2,500 to $4,000 in the proposed budget. The current stipend does not cover the hours needed to maintain the website.

The Budget Advisory Committee is now a full panel with David Vincent of Phillips elected last week to a one-year term by selectmen in commission District 3. Vincent replaces Avon Selectman John Calloway, who did not seek re-election.

Following the commissioners’ review of the draft budget, the Budget Advisory Committee will hold a brief organizational meeting.
