TEMPLE — A local man was arrested after a standoff with police Thursday night and charged with assaulting his father at 34 Cummings Hills Road.
Brian Mackin, 27, was charged with Class B aggravated assault, Class D domestic violence terrorizing and Class E violating conditions of release, according to a release by Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. on Friday.
Deputies and Maine State Police troopers responded to the home at about 12:45 p.m for a report of assault and found Mackin’s father.
“It had been reported that Mackin may have been armed with a handgun and a knife,” Nichols wrote.
No weapons were found during the investigation.
At about 4:45 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received another call from a neighbor reporting Brian Mackin was seen behind his father’s house. The father was not home at the time, Nichols wrote.
Sheriff’s Lt. David St. Laurent, Sgt. Matthew Brann, Deputy Brian McCormick, Deputy Derrick Doucette and Nichols went to the house. Mackin was discovered inside, Nichols wrote.
St. Laurent contacted Mackin by phone and talking with im for over two hours, Nichols wrote. After State Police Tactical Team Commander Sgt. Tyler Stevenson, crisis negotiator Trooper Jed Malcore of Wilton and other team members arrived, Mackin surrendered to deputies, Nichols wrote.
Mackin was taken to the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington and held without bail until he went before a judge by video-conference from the jail.
A conviction on a Class B charge carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine; a Class D conviction up to 364 days and a $2,000 fine; a Class E conviction up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
