AUBURN – Someone broke into Edward Little High School this weekend, kicking in a door panel and walking out with dozens of prizes meant for graduating seniors.
The thieves also managed to get into at least two classrooms. The damage was held to a minimum, though.
“There was no graffiti or vandalism,” Principal James Miller said. They stole the prizes. Then, they left.
School leaders were unsure Tuesday when the break-in occurred.
A weekend janitor discovered the broken panel, Miller said. Police were called. The damage was examined.
“They didn’t do that much,” Miller said. He vowed the items will be replaced.
Among the items were CD players and radios, gifts to teens meant for the end of their graduation party.
All were either donated by local businesses or paid for by student-run fund-raisers.
“We will still have prizes for everyone,” Miller said. “We’ll ask for donations, and it may mean we’ll have to spend some money.”
Not all the stolen items will be replaced, however.
In one of the classrooms, the thieves made off with a case of Poland Spring water.
“I guess they got thirsty after stealing all that stuff,” Miller said.
